The failed competitor from Boeing. Lost the fly off to the F-35 prototype. Dicontinued.
Boeing is just trying to reverse that result by lobbying congress to buy an old Boeing plane instead.

Problem is the Deadbolt version is highly illegal in Mass, I'd love to have it though.
Although I love the Provoke, and that is legal in Mass though, although it's $200. I have one of their knives, and it's great, it's a beast of a blade and has some nice weight to it.

X-32 was just a shitty concept competing with the F-35 prototype back in the day. Seems just as shitty.

The top one can survive a battle with actual fifth gen fighters.

Unless you're buying second hand eurofighters or gripens in which case you're getting scammed as the Austrians found out. Current production F35s are 85mil a pop the only western fighters which are cheaper are the F16 and Super hornet which are both a generation behind the F35.

F-22 is good, Obama shouldn't have cancelled it, but it was never F-22 OR F-35.
It was always going to be F-22 AND F-35, Obama just didn't built enough F-22's.
USAF said they needed minimum 384 of them.
Winslow Wheeler talking points said it was a "boondoggle!"
Obama listened to them and cut the number to 187, which is not enough.

The F-35 could sort of work with a lot of F-15X to guard tankers and constantly spam the airspace with missiles the F-35 can then take command of. If the tankers go down, then so do the F-35, so you have to solve that problem. It's not like you can extend the range of stealth fighters.
Bare minimum, I'd order a completely new F-22 model and replace the current fighter wings with that mission. I'd switch over the F-15E squadrons to F-15X, which is actually not a huge deal like changing to a completely new airframe. The only thing an F-35 should ever replace are the low-tier aircraft like F-16. That's all it was ever billed to replaced. It's unsuitable to replace actual air superiority fighters because it's not one.
The new F-22 model would need to come with retractable pylons that allow you to lose stealth in exchange for external fuel tanks. You can dump those things before you get anywhere near combat, so that just gives you better range. You could possibly use those to load the new missiles, though I think the weapons bay of an F-22 might be large enough. F-35 weapons bays are too small for the latest armaments. That's a pretty shitty situation. No long-range missiles. A stealth plane with no long range missiles pretty well sucks. And they only have four medium-ranged missiles at that.
