Upon Le Duan's death in 1986, America and Vietnam quickly came back together again, against the Red Chinese, as it always should have been.

Here are two of the greatest fights of all time, featuring Robbie Lawler:

I defy anyone to watch those fights and not consider the man one of their favorite fighters. If you like fighting, and you don't like Robbie Lawler, there is something wrong with you, the man is violence incarnate.

My cousin visited South East Asia a few years back. He said Cambodians, Laotians, and Thais were cool with the tourists, but Vietnamese people seemed sterner and less welcoming. Idk if that is generally the case, or if it is their culture generally, or the bad blood from the war.

Eisenhower's Domino Theory was folly, the Communists were not a monolith.
The Viet Minh were nationalists first, communism was simply a means to an end.
Their brand of communism was no threat to NATO.
They were not a Domino about to fall, they were the Bulwark in situ.
The sworn enemies of the Viet Minh were the French and Chinese, and they despised the Russians too.
America was their beacon.
Woodrow Wilson told them to fight for their independence, George Washington was their idol.

The OSS actually helped them during WW2, which is one of the reasons the Vietnamese were so surprised that we didn't have their back after the War ended. In so much as I agree with you that the communist situation wasn't monolithic (cambodia vs Vietnam, Russia vs China, China vs Vietnam etc), the Vietnamese were still commies so fuck em. I don't get misty eyed for Marxists, whether they eat rice, or borscht, or out of Brooklyn food trucks.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 2:14 pmEisenhower's Domino Theory was folly, the Communists were not a monolith.

They were a noble people, a beautiful people, an agrarian people like America of yore.
They simply wanted an America of their very own, they still do.
Unfortunately the Stalinist Ghost of Le Duan persists.
None the less, they are pilgrims on the road to Samarkand.
The Declaration of Independence will free them, it's just a matter of time.

Do you consider Vietnam of the present to be a repressive country?Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 2:23 pmThey were a noble people, a beautiful people, an agrarian people like America of yore.

Repressive. Brutally repressive.
None the less, the position for America to adopt in relation to that, is called Principled Realism.
The Declaration of Independence will free them, in the meantime, the mutual enemy of China is the concern.
America will bring them into the Empire of Liberty slowly, but surely, by market forces rather than B-52.
