Re: What's going on in India?
The UFC isn't worth as much as when Zuffa sold it, the Fertita's got out at just the right time, bought for $2 million in 2001 and sold for $4 billion in 2016.
WMEING got hosed, the gangsters pulled one over on them. The UFC can't be it's own empire, it's still a niche sport, don't let Conor McGregor's mainstream appeal fool you.
The UFC was sold when Ronda Rousey was still a big star, and McGregor was fighting on the regular, but now McGregor rarely fights, and Ronda Rousey is in the WWE, the new owners got fleeced, straight up.
MMA, like all combat sports, is inherently a boom/bust thing, just like boxing. When the sport has stars to prop it up, people get way into it, the gangsters buy up fight promotions, and everyone thinks it's the next big thing, until those stars vanish, and the inevitable bust ensues.
MMA will boom again, and it will bust again, and the cycle will continue, but it is not going to be a constant upward trajectory that the UFC PR Machine would like everyone to believe, that's for damn sure.

Boxing is currently in a bust phase, but it too will boom again, reports of it's demise have been greatly exaggerated, just as reports of MMA's World Domination have been greatly exaggerated.

Pride was awesome! Yoshida choking bitches out with his gi? Fuck yeah!StCapps wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 7:31 pmThey already have that, it's called the UFC. Ever since Zuffa bought Pride FC, that was the two leagues coming together.
Back in the day, Pride was actually better, filled big arenas in Japan, but they lost that fight when the Kakutogi Boom went bust, when Yakuza involvement being made quite public through scandal made Fuji TV dump them.
The UFC has ruled the MMA roost ever since, the occasional upstart MMA promotion like Affliction, EliteXC, Strikeforce and Bellator sometimes get their hands on a few good fighters for a stretch of time, but no real challenger to the UFC has emerged since Pride was bought.

Pride Never Die.
If there is any fighter whose highlight real sums up how awesome Pride was, it's my boy, Quinton Rampage Jackson:

Its all anyone wants to see. Fucking DanaStCapps wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 7:08 pmLightweight is the best division in MMA. It's a fucking shark tank, with Khabib and Ugly Tony smashing said shark tank, with 11 straight wins at 155 in the UFC.
Please MMA Gods, just let me see that fight already, the fight constantly falling apart joke is old, let it go and find something else to amuse yourselves, or my heart will break.

I train at the same gym as him. His manager, Tiki Ghosn, owns it. He's actually a pretty nice guy for what a killer he is.StCapps wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 12:05 pmKnees to the head on the ground, awesome.Arc Light wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 8:21 amPride was awesome! Dude is fucking howls, one of the funniest fighters their ever was. Back when I first got big into MMA, Rampage was my favorite.California wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 12:40 pmI train at the same gym as him. His manager, Tiki Ghosn, owns it. He's actually a pretty nice guy for what a killer he is.

You train at the Huntington Beach Ultimate Training Center huh? Good ol' Tiki, used to fight himself back in the day, though not many remember, they just assume Tiki is Rampage's buddy with a funny name.
