Re: WTF Canada?!
And for the ignorant Americans here, Nec Aspera Terrent is the motto of the House of Hanover.
Which predates your 27th Infantry Regiment by some considerable degree, Hanover being founded in 1635
You would honestly have to be a very stupid American, to think that America is the origin of that motto, so I didn't think it was necessary to explain.
I mean, its origins are obviously Roman, but as it was printed on the shakos of the British Grenadiers, as the Grenadiers for King George III and Hanover, that is where America got it from.
So the question is rather, why would an American regiment adopt the motto of King George III?

Or why would King George speak or care about a Latin phrase? O yeah, that's right the West is Greece and Rome. Thanks for playing.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 28, 2019 5:44 pmAnd for the ignorant Americans here, Nec Aspera Terrent is the motto of the House of Hanover.

I've got lots of mottos, the Commander-in-Chiefs motto is Nec Aspera Terrent, "No Fears On Earth"GloryofGreece wrote: ↑Thu Feb 28, 2019 7:07 pmYour an vet from Canada , right? The Corps motto is Ducimus (Doo-chee-muss) "We Lead"
Regimental motto is Pro Patria "For Country", that country being Nec Aspera Terrent above.
Canada's motto is Mari usque ad Mare, "From Sea Unto Sea"

Re: WTF Canada?!
And Hanover is my country, by the literal word of the Canadian constitution, Elizabeth Windsor is Canada.
Elizabeth Windsor is Elizabeth Hanover, by way of Queen Victoria.
The Royal Family is the marriage of Hanover (Queen Victoria) to Saxe-Coburg & Gotha (Prince Albert)
North German Protestants, eh, wot? The Belgians are Germans too.

Re: WTF Canada?!
And I don't just say the mottos, I live them.
Nec Aspera Terrent; no fears on earth, everybody gotta die sometime, don't fret about what you do not control.
Dumimus; we lead, was a Infantry Reconnaissance Patrolman, the very point of the sharp end.
Pro Patria; the Queen is the country, at Buckingham Palace, Canada is just an agreement.
Mari usque ad Mare; from sea unto sea, born in British Columbia, raised in Nova Scotia and Upper Canada.
God, Queen, Country; yes, and in that exact order.

Your God doesn't view that motto as unchristian or problamatic?
