To a certain extent, in that infantry are for holding ground, and Americans don't want boots on the ground, so large formations of infantry are toxic politically.

WASHINGTON — Lockheed Martin and U.S. Air Force officials may be downplaying the prospect of an upcoming budget battle surrounding the F-15X and the F-35 fighter jets, but influential F-35 supporters in Congress and around the Capital Beltway are mounting an offensive against Boeing’s new F-15 variant.

All signs point to the Air Force unveiling its plan to buy a new version of the F-15 in its fiscal 2020 budget proposal, tentatively scheduled for release in mid-March. Though numbers have fluctuated, a Feb. 19 report from Bloomberg says the service plans to purchase eight F-15X planes in FY20, with an expected total buy of about 80 jets.

Meanwhile, F-35 purchases will remain stagnant, with 84 jets set to be requested in FY20, and 48 of that sum for the Air Force’s F-35A conventional variant, Bloomberg said.

These F-35 grifters will destroy our war-fighting capabilities like this.

We don't have a viable air superiority fighter because of this JSF boondoggle.

This F-35 bullshit is garbage and there's no better evidence of that than these rent-seeking cunts trying to kill the F-15X project.

We used to fight to win. Now we fight to hold ground and nation build. That's been the US policy since Korea, and it's delivered shit. The one time we fought to win, we did, and we won big and we won fast.

This is what infantry does best. The message is too toxic for 21st C pussies.

The infantry seizes and holds any terrain, can seize demographic terrain as well, it's simply an issue of to what purpose?

It's not actually a tale of woe, American infantry have been effective, could have even kept South Vietnam if it was a strategic imperative, the issue was simply that Eisenhower's Domino Theory turned out not to be a strategic imperative after all.

In terms of decapitating Iraq, the Iraqis were dumb asses, offered the brass ring to prosperity, blew themselves up instead. None the less, were still capable of holding it indefinitely, should the NCA require it.

In terms of 21c, Information warfare is becoming dominant, seizing terrain vastly less important therein.

It's the American Information Age Revolution upon us, same for the infantry as any other industrial workers.

In the information age, Special Operations Forces have supplanted the infantry.

The primary role of the infantry now, is to be a base of recruitment, to select the best of the best to be SOF

The SOF are the pilots, the infantry have become a ground crew to support SOF.

It's like in Afghanistan. When America stuck to SOF and B-52's, totally dominant.

When the 101st and 10th Mountain arrived at the Shah-e-Kot, they just got themselves into trouble, peppered with mortar fire to no particular purpose.

Information warfare, SOF with B-52 big stick as needed; made possible by digitization.

Infantry just gets in the way.
