MHF Dictionary: "Racism"

Post by BjornP » Sat Feb 09, 2019 1:11 pm

Does this word hold any meaning anymore? Do you ever use it to honestly describe something? Or should it be considered "lost" to the kinds of people who consider restricting immigration "racist"? A word simply meant to make someone else look as bad as possible, without really meaning anything but "super immoral"? Is this a word that you yourself honestly, non-ironically, non-sarcastically, use or would use to describe to describe anyone or their views of other people? Or has it outlived its usefulness as a means of communicating an idea? If you were to suggest a useful, workable definition for "racism"/"racist", what should it be?

It's a word used by people who hate whites against anybody who dares to mention genetic differences between races of human beings.

It is now, and sure, that's how those people use it. My question is whether that should be how the word is defined. After all, the word racism once meant something different. Should it revert to its older definition or should there exist a new word for people who believe in the old definition of racism?

Would you ever use the word "racist" to describe anyone, for example, and if so, what is your definition of it? That is, if you have one, or believe one is needed?

I mean.. technically.. it should just mean somebody who believes one race to be superior to another.

Which I think in America -- outside of a very small percentage of white supremacists -- describes probably 40-50% of the democratic party electorate who believe whites inferior to every other race.

On the flip side, if you dare to mention that races each have different IQ distributions no differently than they have different distributions of type I to type II muscle fibers, and you get called a "racist".

Because, apparently, IQ makes people superior or inferior to one another, if one is to take these leftists seriously.

Which is fucking insane.

racism
Dictionary result for racism
/ˈreɪsɪz(ə)m/
noun
noun: racism

prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
I think the old definition still works fine.

SJW's on the right want to make it a non-PC word that you can't use anymore because it means you hate whites.
Bigot is the next word going on the blacklist (if you're allowed to say blacklist these days)

Except, other than Nukedog, the only people around here who think one race is superior or inferior to any other are leftists..

Nukedog self-identifies as a liberal.
We get to lump him in with the leftists.

The problem with that definition is that "race" can simply be someone from anyone from another country's different cultural practises and/or beliefs? Are you therefore "racist" towards the Americans here for looking down on their gun culture, for example? By the definition of race:
Definition of race (Entry 3 of 3)
1 : a breeding stock of animals
2a : a family, tribe, people, or nation belonging to the same stock
b : a class or kind of people unified by shared interests, habits, or characteristics
3a : an actually or potentially interbreeding group within a species
also : a taxonomic category (such as a subspecies) representing such a group
b : BREED
c : a category of humankind that shares certain distinctive physical traits
4 obsolete : inherited temperament or disposition
5 : distinctive flavor, taste, or strength
And are people here "racist" when they criticize British culture for being too Orwellian? When you cannot declare that you consider your own societal values as better than the values of another culture, without being lumped into the same boat as people who believe race-based slavery was legitimate, something is wrong with the language trying to describe you.

I think you should pay more attention to the words ''prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism'' rather than splitting hairs over whether people are racist because they think rugby is superior to American football or some other national/cultural rivalry.
