You have to consider what the target audience wants to believe.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 3:47 pmMAGA bro: Holy fuck, Todd, it's negative fifty degrees wind chill outside. What are we supposed to do all night?
Todd: Hey, I know. Let's put on ski masks, bring a noose and some bleach and attack a random homosexual actor who is walking around.
Sure, we’re all reasonably skeptical whenever the random “Trump villains” explicitly announce their allegiance to the president before violently attacking someone. It’s fucking cartoonish. As if criminals have some movie-script requirement to identify themselves as the bad guys and provide a motivation for their crime before acting out. To reasonable people the entire premise is suspect.
... but our whole world view doesn’t depend on Trump-racist-villains existing. We don’t justify our every waking moment to ourselves by saying “someone has to fight the Trump racism and white Nazis running America”. If we were stupid like that, we wouldn’t even question these highly unlikely stories. We’d be like “YEP, I knew it!! Retweet, retweet, retweet!”
