Re: Fake News
For knuckledraggers like myself, getting an explanation to the latest 4 Chan take down of international propagandists is very helpful.

Re: Fake News
That's part of it. The business side of the collapse of "journalism". But the other side is the lying, propagandizing, and smearing (social and economic destruction) of political opponents. The truly amazing thing about these fucking scumbags is the absolute hubris on display. Right at the moment a critical mass was reached and the American people were in the process of rebuking this entire propaganda industry, they came out strong with the "fake news" narrative to shut down the competition (which arguably fit the description of 'journalism' more than the journalists).GloryofGreece wrote: ↑Mon Jan 28, 2019 9:27 amInteresting thread on the Newspaper/Journalist dilemma.

Think of the hubris and arrogance required to all collude to push this fake news narrative right after doing everything possible to manipulate a presidential election with propaganda and lies.
And they are still fucking doing it. They never stopped. If anything, they graduated to fomenting physical violence against children this month. The irony of the "enemy of the people" label should not be lost on anyone either. So-called journalism invented that term in the French Revolution to call for the murder of their political opponents. But if anybody deserves that label in America today, it's the people who tried to get children murdered for wearing the political hat of their opponent. It's just like the fake news debacle, which they invented but which describes them more than anything else.
What journalists did to those children was in every way an act of terrorism. It was the attempt to foment physical violence to destroy people for political ends, and instill a sense of fear in those who would dissent from their political agenda. They are, in point of fact, the enemy of the American people.

Re: Fake News
Journalism has been problematic in this country for over a hundred years, hell possible from its inception really. Sure there were varying degrees of transgressions and purposeful misrepresentation of the content etc. but now it certainly appears like its worse than ever before. Yellow Journalism anyone? Bias...well that's always existed. Misinformation is going to happen, but disinformation well one could argue that is a special form of subversion that borders on treasonous.
It may only be the business element of the breaking of journalism, but when in the very early 1900s advertisement starting becoming a significant part of the newspapers actual pages and a large portion of their revenue then is created another subversion to the authenticity of the writers reporting (obviously). You can trace the above historically and systematically. It wasn't always permeated by big advertising firms. This is propaganda 101. The problem is like with any institution or organization etc. it takes a long time to build up a reputation but hardly no time to lose it. This is just how human beings think and behave. Justly or unjustly.
