The Democrats are going off of the vote count, not the electoral college. They believe they truly are doing the work of the majority of the people. The reality they will never admit is that the majority that voted Democrat has no idea what they really voted for.

Realistically, the average voter doesn't know what they are voting for, or they'd demand something better.

As to team D; that popular vote nonsense is still floating around. I can explain it to them, but I can't understand it for them. But, so what? They can have their delusional fantasy world. There's zero chance we get 3/5 states to ratify any amendment that makes popular vote meaningful.

I say we let Nancy have her temper tantrum. I believe it will bite her in the butt, long term. The blue tidal wave of '18 was more of a light rain shower. Team Blue is still standing on their, "we're not Trump," platform. I believe all but the loons are still tired of that song.

At this point, I'm predicting a sea of red for '20. The middle is not happy with either team, for the most part. From my POV, Nancy owns this mess. She wasn't against border security until the day Trump took office. Many people remember that.

I agree with StA, that if a wall is built by the 2020 election then that will mitigate much of this damage. But if he folds here and there is no wall in 2020 then Trump is going to have a damn hard time explaining why he deserves votes.

He is a cuck, but those acts don't really apply at all. The President has the Constitutional authority to enforce the borders. It's literally his job, outlined explicitly in the Constitution itself. It is the federal government's obligation to protect the states from invasion. The federal government does this with the Army and Navy. The President is the commander and chief of the Army and Navy.

Everything is all fucked up with powers getting handed back and forth. People are right to criticize Congress for handing over their authority to make war, among other things, to the Executive Branch, but it's also true that the Executive Branch has for a long time handed over power to Congress as well, and borders are one of them.

It is not Congress's business to order the President about on the border, telling him how to protect the American people and how not to. They don't actually have the constitutional authority to constrain him by selectively funding every last thing he has to do to secure the country. Nor do they have they authority to fuck around with defense contracting like they do.

Did the earliest Congresses decide exactly how the Army was going to handle incursions by native tribes on our frontier? No. The President asked for funding for his Army, they decided if he received as much as he asked, and he spent the funds accordingly (which is what he was voted to do).
