Re: Socialism
Most people don't realize that a big middle class is a historical anomaly. It emerged as a result of the two world wars. We've never seen anything similar before. The natural order is a small number of ultra-rich, a bunch of plebs and some skilled middle-class managing to stretch their heads above the poor masses.
I detest the Social Democrats but I got to hand it to them they've managed to keep the communists at bay by artificially maintaining the middle class with different transfers. They always used to see that as their primary goal but now they are getting infected by the equity bug and identity politics. It's because they think it's a power game and they are more interested in winning elections than how to govern in a sustainable fashion. It will come back and bite them in their ass if they're not careful.

Not in the US, the Democrats have been eating at the upper middle class and “rich” for decades.Hastur wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 2:30 amMost people don't realize that a big middle class is a historical anomaly. We saw more on food stamps and poverty levels in the last 20 years than any time since WWII.

I agree. And now when Americans talk about Social Democrats they always mean the new SJW flavour, not the old boring fair society architects. The Conservative wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 5:40 amNot in the US, the Democrats have been eating at the upper middle class and “rich” for decades.Hastur wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 2:30 amMost people don't realize that a big middle class is a historical anomaly. No I like your reminent Nazi party. Big fan of nordic socialism. It's a perfect example of how a socialist society can work. In a Nordic country. Not a Muslim one.

Hey, maybe you're finding a permanent niche as a daily stormer guy. Fascists just love submissives who go all-in for propaganda.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 22, 2019 10:07 pmYou must be back on your meds. You’re making a lot of sense lately.

BTW, the Irish Potato Famine called. It says that every one of you all should eat some potatoes, or take some vitamins, or something. Or, better yet, read some history without your socialist beer-googles on.
Spoiler alert: the English government caused the famine, not "capitalism."

The English government that repealed tariffs so that English landlords could export food to England for better prices.. i.e. capitalism.

It was NOT "capitalism" that killed the Irish / depopulated Ireland, it was English hegemony and the destruction/retardation of any private property rights of Irish, i.e., the LACK of capitalism.
Ireland was swept away by the economic forces that emanated from one of the most powerful and aggressive states the world had ever known. It suffered not from a fungus (which English scientists insisted was just excessive dampness) but from conquest, theft, bondage, protectionism, government welfare, public works, and inflation.

Re: Socialism
Well, if you want to get technical, it was the starvation that killed one million people in Ireland. But the starvation was caused by the profit-motive of capitalism. It was a prototypical example of global capitalism, really. Capitalists gobbled up most of the arable land (really stole it from Irish). They produced good food yields on it, but in order to maximize profit, they exported their produce to England. They didn't give a damned about a million people dying from starvation. Their moral compass was the love of money.Fife wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 6:35 am1-D chess for the loss, as usual.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 6:27 amThe English government that repealed tariffs so that English landlords could export food to England for better prices.. i.e. capitalism.

Capitalism's only moral is profit maximization. By the standards of capitalism, these distant landlords did everything right. It doesn't always work out best for nations when capitalism is not moderated.
People who worship money as the ultimate good have gone far too long without being lambasted for that evil. Mammon is degenerate.

Re: Socialism
Socialism, everyone. Wherein we are told that the English government just didn't "moderate" enough. The state just didn't do enough to reign in the whatever whatever it was that exploited the Irish farmers.
