Same happened when I was with the FAA. The useless cubicle dwellers were out with no pay. The air traffic controllers were in without pay. Afterward both received backpay.

The air traffic controllers had to be the only people less sympathetic towards team cubicle-dweller than myself. They were like “None of us were getting paid, but only some of us worked ... and now we all get paid? the fuck?”

I was like “I’m a contractor, I didn’t work or get paid”

Yet the loudest complainers were the useless cubicle dwellers who didn’t work, did get paid, and went on about how they were going to “sue” the government because they missed a credit card bill.

Personally, I think classifying air traffic control as non-essential is a mistake. Or, if it’s not, let’s just scrap the whole FAA. If air traffic control is non-essential, the whole agency pretty much is.
