Well then the survival of my children seems to hinge on whatever vestiges of Christian assimilation remain in me from childhood.

My grandkids are totally fucked.

Probably. The only white people that are still going to be kicking around this country in a hundred years will be fortified compounds of Mormons, Mennonites, Amish etc. fighting off hoards of purple haired squatamalens screeching for transgender sex ops while exotic Zambian gangs called "Rude Boys With Attitude," rule cities and throw chairs at each other in DC on live TV in the Halls of Congress debating on how to divy up the property of second generation Mexican American farmers.

Where the Grapes of Wrath are Stored
Fundamentalism is often viewed as the most Southern of religions. Yet this is not so. It was an alien seed planted in ground razed by war and harrowed by Reconstruction. The harrowing, or Reconstruction if one prefers, was not merely an updating of the constitutional and political order in the South, bu an attempt to impose a new social, cultural, and religious order upon the ruins of the old. To best understand this process, the temptation to isolate the reconstruction of Southern religion must be avoided. There is an important, wider historical context concerning the religious life of modern man to be kept in mind, a context that affected Catholic and Protestant belief and worship.
