If Mexico is going to pay for the wall, why does Trump need money from Congress?

One thing I would like to mention is that Trump declaring that he has the authority to build the wall without congress is outrageous. Enabling acts were never intended for things like this, and furthermore, I don't like that they exist at all. It was bullshit when Obama did and it's bullshit that Trump thinks he should be able to.

He does have the authority to do it. It's his role as commander in chief of the armed forces, and securing the border is a national security issue. If the Army Secretary says he needs a wall to fulfill his mission to secure the border from the illegal incursions by foreign nationals, then the President need only authorize the Army Corp of Engineers to proceed with the project.

It's amazing how people are fine with the President being able to order troops into any country on the planet on a whim, but heaven forbid he do so on our own border it shouldn't be allowed!!

Congress should decide when there is a war and the executive prosecute it. This isn't some military invasion anyway.
This is not what a functioning republic looks like.

I dunno, liberals sure are upset that the President wants to actually *withdraw* troops from several places their own former President kept/put them in. I didn't hear many liberal complaints about troops in Mosul, troops in Syria, missiles flying into Libya... suddenly the current President wants to pull out of some of those places and OMG the world is gonna end!!
But... order troops to our own southern border? OMG!! That's immoral, racist, xenophobic, and can't be allowed!!
FFS be consistent. It's ok to keep troops all over the fucking planet to "defend America", but God forbid we put them on our own border and/or build a wall...
I don't care if you support neither, or both, but supporting one but not the other is hypocritical.

Well you'd have to talk to them, I guess.
Honestly I don't know what kind of procedure can stop a president from declaring a national emergency, of any kind. I do know that these powers were not intended to stop illegal immigration and drugs, etc. Congress should nut up, take some of their power back. And then build a damn wall.

He doesn't need them to declare a war to repel invaders at our borders. That's one of the few sole authorities and responsibilities the office actually has. Well as I pointed out before I don't think there are limits of any kind of his ability to declare a national emergency for any reason. Only that when those powers were granted they were never intended to stop illegal immigration. They are intended for military threats.

There literally have been tens of millions of foreign nationals that invaded our border, and more are coming. It is the President's job to command the military, and it is the military's job to secure the border from invasion. He doesn't need a declaration of war to stop people from invading our country.
