Re: Venezuela news
Not a bad idea, but doing so on a national stage would be impossible. The survivors would be instantly lampooned, discredited, tarred and feathered.

Re: Venezuela news
Stuff like that has been tried. The corporate media stifles their story, and pretends like they don't have a voice...…………. or the classic, well, Communism just hasn't been done right yet, or it would have worked if it weren't for Stalin, etc.heydaralon wrote: ↑Sun Dec 23, 2018 3:59 pmMan, I think it would be a very positive experience for both parties involved if these immigrants from former communist parties talked to Cortez supporters and Bernie Bros. If you could get a bunch of them in a room at a rally, and then have a person from one of these countries speak to them, and explain to them what life was really like under that system. I don't know if it would do any good, but I feel like a few of them would start to do some actual research and critical thinking and examine their beliefs. Who knows. I always enjoyed talking with veterans from various wars the US fought, and it made me want to learn more about the conflict, plus talking to someone, especially if they are older than you, makes you kind of look up to them because they have life experience in some heavy shit. I suspect a lot of these leftists would be very impacted by such a conversation. At least after that, they could not claim ignorance.

Re: Venezuela news
I'm sure they could explain to those Venezuelans how Chavez/Maduro wasn't "real socialism", and that they know the "right" way to do it.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Mon Dec 24, 2018 6:31 amGood idea. Maybe Cortez snd Sanders can talk some nuance and moderation into those refugees.

Venezuelan Supreme Court Justice defects to the US
Says
- Maduro's election was illegitimate
- The Supreme Court has become an extension of the Socialist Party
- Political Opponents are imprisoned on made up charges
- Justice Zerpa was a loyal Communist, but can no longer do it

So ... this guy was a party man when he enjoyed the power of the ruling class, but now shit is coming sideways at him so he’s out?
Fuck him.
We have more than enough Marxism-for-thee but not for me types already. Eat border wall, jackoff.
Go home.

Yeah, looks that way. He was a total insider, now he's out. One way to look at it is, he's a disloyal opportunist. The other thing is, he may be a Canary in the Coal mine for the Maduro regime.
We'll see, Maduro has outlasted my predictions. At this point he might outlast Macron.

Re: Venezuela news
Leaders of failed regimes should stay and reap the fruits of their labor, don’t you think? I mean, what would happen if all the fanatical socialist leaders and educators had to stay in their socialist countries and ride out their policies to the end?
And what do we really gain by bringing them here so they can take root and agitate for another shot at being despots over “the workers”? What do we need a loyal communist Supreme Court justice from Venezuela for, really? Does he code? Can he install plumbing? Can he kick a field goal? What’s in this deal for us?

I agree, they should have to deal with the shit show they helped create. But that's not how it works most of the time. For every Mussolini, there are plenty of Corazon Aquino's getting away with a plane full of shoes.
This guy might be fine replacement for Ginsberg, he'd probably be more conservative
Other than intelligence value, not much use to us. As far as kicking field goals, I'm pretty sure Chicago would sign him sight unseen.
