And?
They're coming for your hegemony.

In seriousness, though:

https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2018 ... anoukville

They really are amateurs at the hegemony game. This sort of aggressive investments and undermining local culture always backfires.

They have been getting a larger presence here in Aalborg, as students studying at the university here. They're known not to talk to anyone unless it's study related, they barely speak English and don't engage in any social activity with native or other foreign students, and they're oblivious about how to interact with, understand or behave here. Mostly because they don't seem to understand the simple concept of things working so very different here as compared to how things work where they're from. They're not just new to travelling abroad, they seem to have gotten no information whatsoever about their destination. But they're otherwise completely invisible and seem to want to be invisible.

Just imagine how delegate this PRC situation is...you are trying to manage a billion+ people and if it goes tits up, there is no-one to blame but the ruling class. At least in the West we can blame each other.

Hard to blame someone for a fault that's never made public, though. Much less blaming someone for a fault when blaming that particular someone leads to an unhappy helicopter ride.

Big Brother can't quite see you from all the way in Beijing, so they'll just order citizens to take public officials into their homes, let them stay there, and spy on you.

https://www.hrw.org/news/2018/05/13/chi ... lim-region
Chinese officials, since early 2018, have imposed regular “home stays” on families in the predominantly Muslim region of Xinjiang, Human Rights Watch said today. These visits are part of the government’s increasingly invasive “Strike Hard” campaign in the region, home to 11 million Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslim minorities.

During these visits, families are required to provide officials with information about their lives and political views, and are subjected to political indoctrination. The Chinese government should immediately end this visitation program, which violates rights to privacy and family life and the cultural rights of ethnic minorities protected under international human rights law, Human Rights Watch said.
“Muslim families across Xinjiang are now literally eating and sleeping under the watchful eye of the state in their own homes,” said Maya Wang, senior China researcher at Human Rights Watch. “The latest drive adds to a whole host of pervasive – and perverse – controls on everyday life in Xinjiang.”

And a report on how the officials, referred to as "siblings" ( :| ) see themselves and their role:

http://www.chinafile.com/reporting-opin ... s-xinjiang

I know some here will think this case fair and unproblematic given the targets, but these particular Muslims in China are not immigrants, not "foreigners", China's under no demograhpic, cultural or religious/ideologial threat from them. They're the native population of that part of the Chinese republic.

That all being said... China will be contained our liberal global allies... they have few true friends.
How much containment is required tho?

The Chinese can't really project much power beyond the mainland.

For example, they couldn't even take Taiwan by force of arms, nowhere near enough sea lift.

So what's the big whoop?

They've got a big army, but it can't actually get very far.

They can basically fight the Russians or the Indians, and they couldn't win in either case. Stalemate.
