Is that also what your grandfather said before the Germans invaded and he surrendered after a few hours?

One of the perverse effects of NATO is that it leads Americans to have some kind of interest in Denmark's defense budget, and vice versa.BjornP wrote: ↑Thu Jan 03, 2019 9:30 amOh, who your enemy is, is a secret, I guess. As for our defense, if there is no need for a 2% of GDP defense spending, then our current spending is enough. Of course, I've written before about Danish defense equipment falling apart and jets falling from the sky (ground crew for jets on mission to Syria didn't get enough sleep because Defense Dept. sent too few ground crew, so they couldn't get enough sleep). So yeah, we do need to increase our defense spending. Not neccesarily to 2%, though, and not because of some whiny, deranged American president* thinks we owe him money, or something.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Thu Jan 03, 2019 9:13 amIt is not really any of your fucking business. What actually is your business is your own defense, which you barely pay for. You do not even break 2% on defense spending.
*Though as Fife demonstrates, he can be rather funny, and he is good for America in a democratic sense.
I took a peak at the numbers of Denmark.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Thu Jan 03, 2019 9:13 amIt is not really any of your fucking business. What actually is your business is your own defense, which you barely pay for. You do not even break 2% on defense spending.
You own a couple of Greenland airbases for your own defense, given Greenland's strategic location. Danish ships and jets patrol the coasts of Greenland. Most of the old bases have been abandoned, and the Greenland government (they have home rule, much like Scotland has in the UK) want all US bases gone - citing pollution and lack of subsequent clean-up efforts. They got a no from the Danish government. In a poll from 2012, Greenlanders envision their future, primary ally and partner being Canada if they got independence. 84% still support the union with Denmark. Only 6% support allying with the US, same as the number for China, btw. You're not on Greenland to do us a favor. Which is fine, for the record. Just don't try and hide behind pretending to be charitable to us, when it's really just about improving your own defensive capabilities. Everyone knows why you're there, and it's fine. In the case of Russia wanting to raise the stakes militarily, and go into Cold War 2.0, having air defense capabilities on Greenland makes alot of sense for you. If Greenland goes independent, they'll probably kick you out, though.C-Mag wrote: ↑Thu Jan 03, 2019 9:47 amI took a peak at the numbers of Denmark.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Thu Jan 03, 2019 9:13 amIt is not really any of your fucking business. 5.8 Million people
15K in active military...………… roughly one division
12K in Reserve
Military spending is $3.8 Billion or 1.17 % of GDP
Which just for the peninsula isn't too bad. The thing is Denmark owns Greenland, which is a huge land mass and a strategic location they really can't properly defend. Now, I don't know what the US pays Denmark to lease that land, but I do know that Denmark took the US to court over which contractors got the business to do improvements and maintenance on Thule Air Base. Denmark arguing it had to go the Danes.
At a minimum, some Danes are very happy with the US there, providing Defense Denmark fails to provide, gets paid for a land lease, and gets jobs working at our bases.
Don't know about that, Sen. It is a microaggression to refer to a pow wow as a white patriarchal heteronormative "investigation". Racist. The Conservative wrote: ↑Thu Jan 03, 2019 10:47 amDon't know about that, Sen. Leading to Greenland swiftly becoming the 51st state.
But Vikings have Odin on their side... and cool longboats with Dragon motifs...
