Airports probably aren't the most representative slice. Bit of a selection bias, vis language.
Negative. There are more and more non english speakers all over America, including entire zones of cities. South Florida is this way. And no, it is not the same thing as the old Italian, Irish ethnic neighborhoods in NY and Boston. Don't even try that fallacious line of reasoning. Those people often had to fight in our Civil War to get citizenship, and they assimilated. They got treated badly, but they learned the language and became reasonable awesome people. Nowadays, the govt is actually encouraging people not to learn the language, and any suggestion otherwise is pure unadulterated racism. Get on welfare! No big deal, 63% of the other immigrants are doing it. Don't worry about it. Some evil white man will subsidize you with his paycheck. This country is turning into a pile of shit man. Please do not make any snarky sarcastic comments either. I had a bad day at work and I am in no mood for your offensive but well-read sense of humor right now. Goddamn foreigners don't want to learn English...
Oh, I get the larger bitch. But, honestly... foreigners in an airport? Quelle fucking surprise.
An airport is gonna have foreigners (mostly spies and dangerous criminals, even the ones from England and Canada (you have to keep a close eye on those scumbags), but despite my curmudgeonly posts about liberals and what not, it is annoying when you check out at a super market, and the cashier doesn't speak a lick of English, or when you ask for help, and the employees look at you like you are from Mars. This happens to me all the time at Wal Mart. It slows down the checkout line, and it makes the experience worse. It also increases the size of Government, because now you have to hire employees who speak the language, and print out documents in different languages, as well as code and translate the govt websites. It adds up, and it makes us as a nation far more divided. When I got rearended a year ago by a non English speaker, I had to wait well over an hour for the cops to not only show up, but also send a spanish speaking cop to the scene of the accident. This shit frustrates me. If things keep going at the same rate, people who have paid taxes, served in the military protecting this country, and generally been model citizens will be alienated from the new growing demographic. They will be forced to learn Spanish in order to communicate with citizens in their own country. This is going to create even more resentment than you see today.

Language is not some incidental thing man. It is a huge anchor for identity and nationality, almost as much as religion, if not more so. While it is true that many multi lingual and ethnic empires have lasted quite some time, and remained relatively peaceful, our democratic form of government is not conducive to this new bilingual setup. It becomes this bitter zero-sum shitfest and makes us all resent one another. If we do not agree politically, do not agree religiously, if our men are coming to increasingly hate our women, if your blacks are growing to hate our whites, if even football games become political etc, we need to build unifying traits wherever we can. Language should be a given in this regard, but sadly it isn't. This will not end well imo.

Since civil wars are liable to break out between people who share a language, I am not entirely sure it is really much of a poultice for civil strife.

Odds are you got native English speakers shitting in the streets.

Not sure why you would bring that up, other than your constant hyperventilation over, well, just about everything.
LOL

What does "native English speakers" have to do with my post? I think you lot actually like the smell of shit. You like to plug each other's asses. You have shit all over your streets. This isn't limited to your shitty immigration views.
Oh, good. We agree. Your post had absolutely nothing to do with the conversation that preceded it. So, again, gotta ask, why post it.

You just can't let any conversation happen anywhere without throwing in some random, unrelated complaining?
I didn't claim it had anything to do with what you were discussing before you started ankle biting me. I just posted an observation. I guess it struck a nerve..

A B-1 visa allows foreign workers into the country only to attend meetings and conferences, not stay and work. The government alleged that Infosys fraudulently used B-1 visitors as if they were H-1B workers.

Low-cost labor

The reason is money, said DiAngelo, who was one of 220 Eversource employees replaced when the Connecticut utility hired Infosys in 2013.

“The people they sent over from India earned less than half what we earned, with no benefits, no health insurance, no paid vacation,” said DiAngelo, who now works for a tech consulting company. “Some of the Indian guys worked 12-, 13-, 14-hour days. Sometimes they wouldn’t get paid for weeks. Many of them lived five or six together in one apartment. So not only are American IT workers getting hurt by this, many Indian IT workers are abused.”

Most of the Indian workers came over on H-1B visas, meaning they were supposed to have skills American workers do not. That wasn’t the case, DiAngelo said.

“As a condition of getting our severance pay, we had to train our replacements. I had to train 10 people in India via a web session every day for weeks,” he said. “Most of them were kids. They had no clue about what I was telling them. All I did was repeat myself. (Eversource) realized that the people in India were not competent to take our places, so they gave us 10 more weeks of severance to stay and do more training.”

The repercussions continue, DiAngelo said.

“Many of my former co-workers are still out of work. One has a double master’s degree and is working in a supermarket,” he said. “With all these H-1B visas, there are not enough jobs, and the base salary for IT workers in this country has declined.”

I can't believe the corruption is so bad that politicians don't see the danger to their own fucking kids....They're literally destroying the US standard of living by supporting slave traders like Infosys.
Pfft, fuck this... Americans are fucked sideways on this shit...

It's been going on forever. I had to train my replacement in Bangalore over 20 years ago.

The "my ancestors learned to speak English" thing is a myth. Their kids did, when they went to school. The older generation spoke little English and lived in segregated neighborhoods where they kept a lot of the old ways. Spanish speaking people are going to wind up the same way we did: eventually assimilating. They are now. They're intermarrying too and that's the essential component to assimilation.

Wtf are you talking about? The H1b1 workers speak english bc its the national language of India - assimilation is not a problem - slave labor and undercutting american jobs is the problem. You know that most H1b1 workers go back home after a few years right? They get cycled out before they can leave the control of the importing slave masters.

I was responding to two different topics. I posted after TC.

I'm really starting to believe culture is more important than politics in keeping a country together and stable. 10 years ago I wouldn't have thought that , hell five years ago I woukdnt either. I just don't think a belief in civic nationalism or the Constitution etc cannot keep us as a coehisve peieole. And that's not even what has been holding us more or less stesdy. It's been simple commerce that has. And that's not enough either or if it is what a flemsy bullshit thing to have society henge on...hey I can sell you cigerrates and beer and t-shirts isn't that good ? We are comrades. Who cares if you are religious, speak another language, have a family or want to be with transgender swinger parties and never have kids?? We can do busienss and that's all that matters and all that keeps us from chopping each other's heads off.
