And who imposed that hard border?
What was it’s purpose? Customs enforcement, or something else?
Britain imposed it.
So now do you see why it is so impossible to reinstate.
It is seen as part of a return to full-blown rule from Westminster.
Without a hard border, the security motive to search people crossing the border is gone. With a return to a hard border that necessity returns.
Neither the ROI nor NI and GB (UK) will accept a hard border but the UK cannot leave the EU unless there are border checks.
Are you begining to see how intractable this is yet?
What is your solution?
2 options:
Take ownership of NI and quit fucking around.
Get NI out of the UK and quit fucking around.
There are no other choices.
So, impose a hard border on NI which only the EU wants. Great way of ensuring a return to sovereignty. Plus it increases the chance of a return to violence led by Republicans.
Or, ignore the will of the people of NI and impose rule from a foreign state (ROI) another great way of returning sovereignty and increasing the chance of a return to violence (this time led by Unionists)
Basically, you are arguing for a return to civil war.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Not “imposing on someone else”. Enforcing your own borders. You fucking own it or you don’t.
Or, ignore the will of the people of NI and impose rule from a foreign state (ROI) another great way of returning sovereignty and increasing the chance of a return to violence (this time led by Unionists)
How is this option “imposing” anything? Are you claiming a humanitarian mission here?
Let it go, and let Ireland figure out Ireland’s problems.
This entire situation has been caused by half-assing . Stop half-assing everything. Define your territory and defend it. This is not complicated, unless you’re a politician trying not to change anything, despite being ordered to change it.

It would make more sense to give the territory back and just relocate people to England who identify as such.
I do not even understand what value Northern Ireland has to England. You guys lost your conquest and subjugation of Ireland. That territory is worthless to you.
And I thought you were all one globalist family?

So now you are taking a side in a civil war.
You want to impose Irish rule on the majority of the people of NI who wish to remain in the UK.
Are you going to send American peacekeeping forces once the violence starts again or are you just going to send funds and weapons to terrorists like the good old days?

So we ignore the will of the people?
If we are going to do that we might as well ignore the Brexit vote and stay in the EU thus ensuring continuing peace in NI.
If we are going to start giving away sovereign territory then who next? The Falkland islands? Gibraltar? Wales? Scotland? Cornwall?
After all we lost our Empire and all those places are a drain on the UK treasury.

You already took a side. You created this situation when you occupied half of a neighboring country, during a civil war. Now you’re half-assing your ownership of the territory.
And no, you can call the UN if you want to, but I’m pretty sure they’ll figure it out quickly.

So now we give up our right to decide our own internal politics and hand it over to a globalist organisation?
This return to governing our own affairs is starting to sound a lot like giving up sovereignty to an outside institution.

Internal affairs? Ireland is not an internal affair, unless you go with option 1.

Whoooa. Did I fall into a time warp back to the 80's?
Who cares about Northern Ireland?
It doesn't mean shit to us, and the people it does mean shit to have already given up on it. What's next? Re-litigating the creation of Israel?
Y'all ran out of current issues to bitch about?

Make Britain great again by dividing it up back into its constituent parts.
Genius.
