You live in the South right Carlus? One thing that I have been hearing more about my way is coyotes. It seems like they are making a comeback. I haven't seen one in Florida, but many of my friends and some of my neighbors have. The news in my area has also run a few stories about this. I'm not sure if they are native to Florida, or if they migrated elsewhere from the South.

Holy shit. I've seen a couple of grizzlies at Glacier National Park, but never up close. They were like a quarter mile away. I've heard they can run pretty damn fast. Those claws...

When we were on the trails in glacier, we wore bear bells. The rangers said that the bells will let the bears know you are coming and give them time to hide, as they generally attack if they are startled. Is that true, or like the playing dead thing?

Black bears are the aggressive ones right? For grizzlies you gotta play dead, but black bears you gotta fight? I have seen a few in Florida, mainly on camp outs. They sometimes wander into suburbs, tip over trashcans, and kill a pet or two and it makes the news. I'm not sure if they eat the dogs and cats like Hwen, or merely kill them in self defense.

To show the bear you are friendly, you have to pick up and play with its cubs. This will neutralize the bear threat and help de-escalate the situation.

Glacier National Park has had years when over a dozen people get eaten by Grizzlies. They are spreading fast, they will be in close to a dozen states in the next 15 years
