How's that primitive Fire Building going HD ?


I only ask because based on current events you may need that soon.

I have had this fucked up jock itch or almost 2 weeks now, and I want to let that heal up before I am doing too much outdoor stuff. Additionally, I have been working 5am shifts back to back for many days, so often I have no energy after work. I did do a bit of hiking in Volusia county, and found this awesome bamboo forest. It was next to a river. I made a fire with a knife and flint, but I have not had the time to get the drill stuff to work. I am going to go canoeing on Sunday when I'm off work. Not gonna be fishing, just enjoying the lake and hopefully try to keep my burning crotch dry. Are you doing any camping yourself? Do you hunt every year?

I hunt whenever I can, throughout the year, but not nearly enough. My brothers and friends hunt more than I do unfortunately.

The Numbers were just to list the different people, no meaning really.

It's number of points i'm referring to when I say 5x5, etc. Typically in East coast hunting lingo they count all the points, they might say, I got a 10 point buck, nothing to do with size, there is specific measuring for that. In the West and Rocky Mountain region we typically would say, a 5 point buck, referring to one side of a typical antler, everyone knowing that means it has 10 points. The more accurate is to say 5x5. To add more complexity and confusion, many won't count the brow tines or eye guards(the small points just above the eyes), so that 10 point Eastern standard buck in the west, might be called just a 4 point.

What is your best hunt ever, point wise? Have you ever caught a 14 point buck?

The best hunts are not directly linked to antler size...………. for me. Mostly about the challenge. Anytime you get an elk is good, the meat is fantastic and most hunters will never get one. The most difficult game to kill are old, wise Mule Deer bucks. They are smart and crafty.

My biggest game I've shot is a 6x6 Bull Elk. The biggest deer is a 5x5 Mule Deer with a 30 inch horn spread, 24 inches is considered respectable.

Hunting is about the experience with friends, conquering elements, terrain and outsmarting the game. Then enjoying the meat throughout the year with friends and family, antlers serve as an immediate reminder that stirs memories of all that was involved.
