Seems too pricey for 3 hours especially when there is less expensive and free content out there. Is it really well done, is the narrator talented?

Yeah. Not worth it. All his stuff is free when he release it. He charges for the old stuff like Dan. Bob is one of the first podcasters and still going strong.

Yeah. Not worth it. All his stuff is free when he release it. He charges for the old stuff like Dan. Bob is one of the first podcasters and still going strong.

I am thinking of buying one of the dozens of Joan of Arc books out there. Great story there just have to find it.

Part III is getting into the thick of it finally. Should be the better episode. This series kindled an interest in the Hundred Years War again for me. I'm very finicky when it comes to interest in ideas and historical inquiry. Anyway, ive been trying to finish a Distant Mirror and I have to say the audible version is quite good even at the 25 hour mark. She covers a wide variety of characteristics and values important to the medieval person. Culture as well as warfare are discussed a lot.

The French seem to have been stuck on the idea of upholding a purer version of chivalry and knighthood as an institution and way of life. They'd be damn if they were going to share the glory of battle with peasants and regular foot soldiers. Where as either through necessity or flexibility the English were more prone to allow common folk to engage in regular warfare. The whole knight isn't suppose to surrender to a peasant thing is confounding and jarring really when you think about. Its amazing that nobility and their control over power/status lasted as long as it did really. Especially considering how banking, credit, and merchants were withering their way into magnate status for a decent amount of time really.

The 14th Century was pretty awful for a lot of people and for a variety of economic, agrarian, military, political, and cultural reasons. Huge chunks of the Nobility were wiped out completely. The King was kidnapped for god sake. The half of France was under English control and most of the different areas were going through famine, pillage, or civil war. Seems as bad overall for most Frenchmen as the Thirty Years War was for Germanic people.

Very readable and enjoyable book primarily about Agincourt but also covering the buildup and effects of the late military campaign in France.
