I'll see your "major ass forest fire out West," and raise you a "major ass flood somewhere in the Tennessee valley, a heat-stroke death in West Virginia, and 300 gun homicides of black males in Chicago."

You gonna call?

There are ruins of several extinct cultures out west that say this has been going on for a long time. The North American west is not really that great for longterm civilization.

Indeed, the Americas in general are a kind of trap for civilizations. They offer really good short-term benefits for the rise of civilizations, and then pull the rug out from under them with climate change like you people cannot imagine, especially in South America where mega el ninos wrecked civilization about every 700-1000 years.

Our western outlook is ill-suited for this as well, having emerged in relatively stable and safe Europe, Near East, and North Africa. Our collapses are generally internal.

One day, shit is going to get real in the Americas and it has fuck all to do with your manmade climate change woo woo.

Sceince tells us Fire is composed of 3 Elements. Heat, Oxygen and Fuel.

Of those 3 the only one we can readily control is Fuel.
Our forest acreage has been steadily growing over the last hundred years. We are closing in on 30 years of radical environmentalists shutting down reasonable, sustainable Forest Management practices. Practices such as thinning, fuels reduction and quick fire supression. As a result our forests are in poor health and suseptable to fire.

Further, the Forest Fire is not historically bad. Forest fires are only burning about 20% - 30% of the acreage burned between 1920 and 1940. That doesn't match the hockey stick very well.
