Re: Trump's SCOTUS
I think Bush contributed to this way more than Obama and Trump. But his excuse was 9/11. It basically takes another 9/11 to reverse it. Not necessarily a terrorist action, or a war, or anything like that. But a crisis of such magnitudes both parties have to cooperate.Kath wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 7:26 amHow is a straight-forward assessment about our current state, naive? He's spot on. This is stuff I learned in HS Civics back in the 80's. The party in power takes more power without considering that the other party will use the same power when they get control. Once the other party gets control, they grab even more power without considering that the other party will use the same power when they get control.Martin Hash wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 7:15 am
This is naive beyond comprehension for a long time member of this forum.
Rinse. Repeat. Over and over (and over and over) again.
I think the last time I voted for an R or D was in 2010, because this shit has to stop. I won't support these clowns. They all suck; all 537 of them. The last president to not completely fuck us was George W. Bush, IMO. It's all been crazy-town since.

Trump needs to win YUGE so that the Dems discontinue their divisive strategy because it will only get worse until that happens.

Bush Sr. He was a solid administrator and didn't peel away at our rights. Bush, Jr. was a loser president.Otern wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 7:30 am

Lol - I don't see the meltdown ending anytime soon. I don't see the blue team gaining much ground next month. "We're not Trump," is not a platform the middle can get behind.Martin Hash wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 7:31 amTrump needs to win YUGE so that the Dems discontinue their divisive strategy because it will only get worse until that happens.

Also, I don't think the US is as fucked as Europe when it comes to this. There's still checks and balances over there. You guys can still block legislation. You still have a supreme court sort of independent from the parties.
Europe is fucked beyond redemption. And all it takes is the EU commission falling in the wrong hands. I'd say it's in the wrong hands now. But at some point in the future, there can be even worse people in charge there. People that even your average "moderate" European would not approve of. And there's no system in place to stop them once they're there.
Just too bad most Europeans are more interested in the "fucked up US politics", than the politics going on at home.

There we agree. I really hope the midterms shows the democrats how the identity politics they've been running have been hurting their party. The worst thing happening now is a landslide for the democrats.Martin Hash wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 7:31 amTrump needs to win YUGE so that the Dems discontinue their divisive strategy because it will only get worse until that happens.

It's too late for them to fix their shit before the 2020 election though, so Trump needs to win that too.

These people are not even close to ending their meltdown, yet. I think you give them too much credit.Otern wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 7:41 amThere we agree. How can one be in the “middle” these days? Its either maxrist rasicim or liberty....what do you believe the “middle” is? Just the right balance of marxist racism and liberty?
