WASHINGTON (AP) — Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was heading to the White House on Monday expecting to be fired by President Donald Trump following reports that he had made critical comments of Trump, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.

What we know at the moment:

He has not been fired.

He has not resigned.

Mueller investigation would be under Trump appointee Noel Francisco.
fun. seems like a bad political play for trump to fire him now, even if it's justified

Verbally resigned as he was expecting to be fired. Reportedly spent the entire weekend trying to put conditions on his removal :?

This is huge folks.
Hardly any of the agents of the Coup left. The ringleaders are pretty much gone. I'm interested to see if Sessions performance changes now. You could tell in his testimony before Congress Rosenstein considered himself the AG, not Sessions.

Rosenstein would be replaced by solicitor general, Noel Francisco.
Francisco's views seem to mirror some of President Donald Trump's — a 2016 op-ed article rebuked the FBI, and a case he was involved in earlier this year included a defense of executive authority.

Rosenstein was confirmed by the Senate voted 94-6 on April 25, 2017, 21 days later he appointed Mueller to find something, anything, to overturn the peoples vote the previous Fall.
