Hype.

It came right over me. Totally hyped up. We had FAR more rainfall earlier this year. Not even close.
Please quote your source that you had more rainfall earlier this year in this little time.
Preliminary reports from the National Weather Service say that as of noon on Saturday, over 30 inches of rain has fallen in Swansboro, N.C. Florence's 30 inches of rainfall has broken the statewide rainfall record set by Hurricane Floyd in 1999 of 24.06 inches.4 days ago
We had three weeks of nonstop rain flooding out at least half the farms and many residential areas, Kath. It didn't make national news because they cannot make it sound more dramatic than it is.

It only made local news

I am not downplaying a cat 1 hurricane. I am pointing out that the coverage is fucking ridiculous right now.

I am saying: it's not that big of a deal like they are hyping it to be. FFS. How long have you lived in Florida now?? It was a Cat 1 storm.
Two things can come from a hurricane - wind damage & serge damage. Serge damage is far worse.

A cat 1 moving through in a few hours doesn't do a lot of serge damage. A non-event, for the most part - few downed trees and electrical poles, minor damage to houses - we lost a fence and a huge coconut tree during Irma last year.

A cat 1 moving at 2 MPH and dumping 30" of rain over a small area for three days over a part of the country where there are several rivers will cause mass amounts of damage.

2,000 roads flooded and not passable.
Thousands of homes completely underwater.
Thousands had to be rescued by boat because they didn't heed the warnings.
One river crested at 62' above sea level - a state record
Record rainfall - 18 TRILLION gallons of water dumped in three days.
Bridges completely washed out/destroyed - will need to be completely re-built

I assure you that people on the East side of the state are not calling this a non-event. Those that evacuated can't go home, yet, because there is no way to get there. Once they get there, they don't have a house. Why go back if your house is underwater, you can't get there by car and once you do get there, there are no services (grocery stores, gas stations, etc.) ?

I-95 has been closed for days.

I have never used the phrase "biblical superstorm" in my life. Not sure where you got that.

This wasn't a major hurricane. It was a major SURGE event. Do you understand surge?

I was talking about the God damned media overhyping this storm and then you came at me like I do not know what happens in a hurricane.

Maybe spending half my life in Florida gives me awareness of what happens in a hurricane? I don't know. Maybe I need to be educated about that again.

You might understand hurricanes. This was not a big deal, hurricane-wise. You clearly don't understand how harmful that record levels of surge can cause. If you did, you wouldn't be saying this surge is a non-event.

Hurricanes drop a lot of rain. Stop the press.
