Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
I intentionally took a media break for a week in order to remember what life was like without politics and "news" 24/7. It was refreshing. I didn't feel so angry and frustrated. Coming back to it I can immediately feel the waves of anger and frustration as I read or listen to the news. I also feel even more certain that our media and government are what I used to imagine Russia and East Germany being like when I was a kid during the Cold War years. Now we are not fully like that, but the way the media acts as propaganda and dissenters are ostracized seems to be close.
I'm also wondering what the point is to following the news closely anymore. I know most of what makes the news is spun or selectively chosen. I'm not getting anywhere close to the real picture of things. Even if I was, I have little recourse to effect change other than vote for one swamp creature over another. Why spend so much of my time digging into the obvious lies and deception? Maybe I'm better off just watching from a greater distance while I concentrate on things I can affect closer to home.

I’ve noticed the same.
Nothing like opening the Google news feed to destroy the morning zen.

I find it all fascinating.
While I’m rarely anxious or worked up anymore, which is probably disturbing in its own way.
I’m continuously amazed at the corruption of DC being revealed on a daily basis. On one hand I’m happy it’s being revealed on the other disgusted.

Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
It becomes tedious skipping by all the Fake News and outrage on my YouTube feed. Reuters is just as bad, and I quit following Google News long ago.
I talk to my wife about this occassionally; it's so clear that most of the MSM is beholden to somebody, all trying to promote the same anti-Trump narrative. Why do people on our side even listen to it? No, really, there's a Virtual Civil War going on, and cross-communication is impossible at this point. Somebody has to win this war and our side is barely fighting. I can't even tell who's on our side? First thing we need is a list of who's on whose side.

This is much more healthy. I envy your ability to tune out.PartyOf5 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 10:24 amI intentionally took a media break for a week in order to remember what life was like without politics and "news" 24/7. For me, it’s about trying to spot coming disasters and planning ahead. Though I have to acknowledge that any efforts to do so may prove futile.

This is why I got rid of the brainwashing box... errr, TV... years ago now. It's amazing how even just after a year if I saw the TV somewhere I could feel how it was trying to manipulate my emotious. Advertising, news, all the same. I was watching the YouTube clips of the "separating kids from parents at the border" bit, crying, tears, the emotioral manipulation was oozing out of the screen at me. It's been long enough though that it doesn't suck me in at all anymore, I can see it for what it is.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 11:01 amThis is much more healthy. Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
I don’t know ... I’m happier when ignoring the news, and frankly, not posting on forums.
But after a while I start to feel disconnected from the rest of Earth. Like everyone is talking about things happening on some other planet, and my day to day isn’t bringing me into anything particularly interesting or noteworthy. Not because I’m in an isolation tent or anything, just ... it’s very lonely being in the present. You’re almost always there by yourself.
So I go back to the news feeds, or peruse this forum, and BAM! Sucked back in. Even though I can feel the calm and contentment draining from me like an open oil pan - I Accept the losses and soldier on.

Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
It’s a difficult road to walk.
I get all of my “news” from here, or a quick scan of zerohedge. I don’t watch tv, except for kids programming or Netflix, though I do still love a good nfl game. I just feel revolted at 90% of the coverage/commercials.
I listen to a few podcasts, like Jason stapleton and JRE.
I guess I’m about as ‘tuned out’ as I can be.

I love the corruption being shown... the Emperor has no clothes, and is getting a pound a flesh taken out on a daily basis.C-Mag wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 10:41 amI find it all fascinating.

Personally I'm loving the hour-to-hour news cycle nowadays, it's addicting and it's bad for your health and it rots your teeth out but when push comes to shove I prefer being (mis?)informed to uninformed
