One might go so far as to suggest that if your state has no borders, then there is no state.

After all, what is the border of a state if not the geographical limit of where the nation can project its force? If the nation can’t successfully project its force to a location, then that area isn’t within its actual border (ask Ukraine).

If a state has no borders at all, then it can’t legitimately project its power anywhere. Everywhere it seeks to project power will be claimed by another nation or group.
