Re: End of “The Church”
I find it amusing how a thread about the internal politics of the Catholic Church becomes a thread for atheists to narcissistically preen over themselves.

True. It’s just a human trait to use image tales to promote whatever morality that fits the day and age. To bad we’ve sent polytheism to the proverbial dustbin of history for the most part.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Fri Sep 14, 2018 7:43 amThe main comparison between the two myths is that they are both works of fiction.

Polytheism can't compete with public sports and mass media. Who needs a thunder god when you have NASCAR? Who needs a fertility goddess when you have Beyonce?

Christians are one of the few groups in the PC world that is fair game to attack, so it's open season for all their intolerance and hatred. Lots of pent up anger to get out.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Fri Sep 14, 2018 8:12 amI find it amusing how a thread about the internal politics of the Catholic Church becomes a thread for atheists to narcissistically preen over themselves.

What about the idea that the legend of King Arthur was born from the Saxon Arthur, forced into hiding by the Vikings, and returned triumphant?
The first King of Britain eventually, he had a pretty serious propaganda campaign going while he was run out of town.

Maybe. The story is more about the mythos of the Aryan people returning to the land they once ruled and attempting to resurrect a new kingdom. Everything takes place after the deluge in this theory of mine. Even the "aryan" conquerors, read in this case "saxons" are a disparate tribe that has not being doing a whole lot since the deluge historically. And by deluge I'm just throwing a word out there for a possible atlantian civilizational collapse.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Fri Sep 14, 2018 10:12 amWhat about the idea that the legend of King Arthur was born from the Saxon Arthur, forced into hiding by the Vikings, and returned triumphant?

Why would I pray to rednecks turning left for 3 to 4 hours?
Let alone it’s safe to say the Beyonce is a tad out of my league and bank account.

Re: End of “The Church”
Religion isn't about praying, it's about finding meaning and order. I heard a guy on the radio saying how doctors and science took over much of what religion covered back in the day. We no longer see the priest about sickness or bad weather. You don't pray to the rednecks behind the wheel any more than you pray to the quarterback of "your" team. But they give order and meaning to some lives like the church did. I 1st understood this when I was 18 and working in a factory, sports gave blue collar people something to talk about that was different from yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that....HarryK wrote: ↑Fri Sep 14, 2018 1:51 pmWhy would I pray to rednecks turning left for 3 to 4 hours?
