It was written by Susan Sontag in 1969. It's a pretty accurate description of the country I grew up in. The fact that she is such a devoted liberal just gives it more weight. Spoiler: Sweden didn't live up to her expectations.
She wrote it after she had spent seven months in Sweden directing her debut feature film Brother Carl (1971). (Don't watch it.)

When I read it I remember the country I grew up in. Not a pleasant feeling. The Sweden Democrats describe this era as some kind of paradise lost. That is the reason I will never share their vision.

She is a very good essay writer so I recommend reading it.
