I don't have to take credit for designing an SQL database system to demonstrate how much higher level a software engineer is from a database IT guy.
We all had to study database design just to graduate with a bachelor's degree. About a year ago you didn't understand what I meant by that and I showed you some relational algebra.
Your response was to the effect: fuck no fuck that I don't math.
Well, that's the difference between a software engineer and any of the myriad of IT fields out there.
And that database stuff is actually pretty trivial compared to the mathematics involved in a wireless communication network, especially that fucking base radio.
I just dropped bank to take a 40 week Data Analysis Certification course. My math-challenged ass knows exactly who to come to when the hairy calculations portion of the class gets underway.

Dude, the data mining course I took in the doctoral program was at a much higher level than I was comfortable with.
There is data analysis as in tricks to do practical things with various libraries (Python is genius for this), and then there is the actual data analysis mathematics and algorithms. The latter is kind of outside my field.

I’m doing the Python kind. Though I haven’t messed with Python, C, or JAVA for over 15 years. Should be good times.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Thu Sep 06, 2018 5:32 pm

The one on Udemy is pretty good. Is that what you are doing, or are you doing something at a real college? You might want to check out the Udemy course since it's usually cheap (about $20) and thorough, with lots of walkthroughs.DBTrek wrote: ↑Thu Sep 06, 2018 5:44 pmI’m doing the Python kind. 15 hours a week, 40 weeks.
I do the Udemy courses too, so I’ll have to check out what they have. I usually hit up Udemy when I have a software specific task to accomplish - like PowerPoint or Adobe Photoshop. I imagine I’ll be leaning on it for SQL, Python, and math over the next year. Udemy is great for knowledge, but not for a resume.

Was thinking about going into Deep Learning since I have a strong AI background. Planning on going back to work at some point soon, but need to get ducks in a row. I might check out that data analysis certificate.

I’d encourage you to go for it, or something similar. Job market is white hot for data analysts, data scientists, cyber security specialists, and AI engineers. Good work from home opportunities too, since there’s a critical shortage of qualified candidates.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Thu Sep 06, 2018 6:09 pmWas thinking about going into Deep Learning since I have a strong AI background. I think I am pretty well done with rehab. Need to work on legal stuff. As long as an can break the muscles down with strength training, the pain is mostly gone.

That’s great news, it sounds like you have a lot of things moving in a positive direction for you. Keep up that momentum. We’re getting older, but we have the awesome benefit of not being mentally crippled by SJW-style victimhood dogma of younger generations, and it keeps us competitive as fuck. You come back into this job market with AI skills I suspect you won’t be looking for work for long.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Thu Sep 06, 2018 8:10 pm
