Doesn't one just factor in the extra hour of elevator time, transportation costs, etc (including shitting in a bucket)/ daily rate and make a determination if it is worth their time?DBTrek wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 1:33 pmLet’s take the passions and feelers surrounding Amazon out of the equation.
Suppose “Survival Inc.” operates an underground living community deep in an abandoned copper mine. They hire cleaners who are responsible for keeping the various subterranean living pods tidy.
Reaching the deep shafts where the pods are requires a 30 mIn elevator ride. The timecard clock is at the bottom of the shaft (even though you technically enter Survival inc. property when you park at the company lot on the surface).
Cleaners are aware of the elevator ride when offered the job.

That’s exactly what they do, unless we decide to craft legislation demanding that something else happen.

Amazingly, we have real world examples of this from the mining industry. Where are their time clocks located?DBTrek wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 1:33 pmLet’s take the passions and feelers surrounding Amazon out of the equation.

It's almost like the inverse of paying people to sit on the computer and talk shit online. Weird how it's okay to pay DB to post online but workers at Amazon don't have the right to be compensated for their time. Strange.
You seem to sleep ok.
One wonders, though, if you reimburse your employers for your time posting online. After all, if you think Amazon employees should not be paid while waiting for Amazon to search their bags, then your employer should hardly have to pay for your taking time to post that. Just because you're physically at work doesn't seem to matter.

I actually knew a guy who was a miner before he enlisted. They clock in up top (like as soon as they walk in the gate).
They do clock out to take a shit, though. And they don't get that much time off. But pay is really good.

Meanwhile, in the damp, oppressive Russian nickel mine..
If DB worked for corporate, he'd be up top on his work computer posting furiously to Internet forums how the company is wasting resources on these fucking workers.

You know the opposition is crumbling when they start obsessing over your personal life.
So - since there is no real rebuttal for employees not being paid to take a 30-min elevator ride to subterranean survival pods we’ll call that a win and move on.
As previously mentioned - every employee at an Amazon fulfillment center is free to leave that situation if they have better opportunities. It is therefore not unreasonable to assume everyone working at one doesn’t have better options available to them.
Given this, how do all these outside agitators defend their self-insertion into an employer-employee relationship that concerns them not at all? How much weight should the opinions of Captain Save-a-plebs be given, and should their feelings be allowed to affect the best options these Amazon workers have open to them?

Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
If I was shut up somewhere by my employer without pay and not officially on duty I would get blue blazing blind drunk, piss in the corner shit on the floor and sing rude songs. Any complaints would be null and woid since I’m not on the clock.
A couple of hundred people doing that for a week would probably solve the problem without the courts having to get involved.
