I'll go a step further: close down the USPS along with the gibs machine. Auction that shit off, eliminate all--100%--of corporate gibs to Bezos, and let Amazon figure out a new deal on the private market.

Amazon already figured it out. Hire FedEx/UPS to deliver nationally. Hire neighborhood can-shitters to deliver locally. The solution is already in place. Can-shitters can hit a FedEx center for pick up as easy as they hit a post office.
