Given the absurd and broken pricing model of both medical care and insurance in this country, the only option remaining seems to be single-payer.

Or, we could, GASP, use the anti-monopoly laws to reign in the insurance industry....and perhaps the Hospital Admins.

It's not just them, though. The lawyers and incompetent legislation have made medical care permanently inflationary in this country.

The reason for this is that, along with food and water, medical care is something that we have absolutely no choice but to purchase. However, in this case, we also have no choice about WHAT to purchase, and often, no choice about whom to purchase it from.

To actually fix the existing system, you'd have to do a number of impossible things:

- Draft a law that medical providers post the price of any treatment/test/exam prior to conducting it.

- Force insurance companies to offer only catastrophic coverage policies, or enforce open bargaining and competition between providers.

- Enforce Medicare and Medicaid and VA care to all pay existing market rates.

- Somehow eliminate lobbying groups pushing future legislation to undo all of these changes.


Simply not possible, under our form of government.

I’m on the fence about the corporate charter, but would it not make sense to involve employees in the political stance of the company? They’d probably vote “no” most of the time, which could help limit lobbying...

It now dawns on me that when Dan was talking about a Third Way, he didn't mean The Center, he meant Left of the Dems. This Dem Party is exactly what he wanted but it is being twarted by Trump, which explains his animosity towards Trump.

Giovanni Gentile was the philosopher who created the concept of Fascism. He was an ardent Marxist, combined with Nationalism.

If you really look objectively at all the so-called communist nations that emerged out of the 20th century, they all became fascist within a few years. China is not really communist in the one-world worker's paradise sense. It's a nationalist and socialist construct. So was the Soviet Union. So was pretty much every other communist regime.

I think we need to separate the economics and political structure from the underlying impetus of the national socialism. When it's "right" it's usually a response to Marxism destroying the indigenous people and culture. When it's "left" it's just the obvious result of communism, which always leads towards fascism one way or another. The Trotsky's of the movement will always get murdered sooner or later.

No, that was a component of fascism.

Obamacare was technically a fascist solution to healthcare, not a socialist one, for the same reason. Government ordering business for what it perceive s as the public good is a major component of fascism.
