Jimmy Carter may have been the last Jeffersonian to be president. A recent article in the Washington Post labeled him the “Un-Celebrity President.” In either case, Carter is a reflection of a people and a place. He is the most authentic man elected president since Calvin Coolidge, and like Coolidge a true Christian gentleman.
. . .
People often remark that no one cares what Jimmy Carter thinks when he is asked to comment on current events. He is castigated by those on the “right,” and generally ignored by those on the “left.” His loser image in his most enduring legacy. Perhaps that’s fitting. After all, the South has been tarred with the “loser” moniker since 1865. Carter as a man is too good for the swamp, just as the Southern people are too good for the rest of America. Carter may not have always been right in D.C., but he was always Southern, and that more than anything else is why the rest of America couldn’t and still can’t understand him and why the South still deserves him.

Kind sir Fife from Jack Daniels central. The south never forgave the north. And Jimmy Carter was a true salt of the earth man who was sent to oblivion from the other presidents. Just like back in the day Gov. Moonbean from Cali was quite the visionary that the rest of the nation took cues from his.

Well considering OPEC called the shots Carter was in an unwinnable situation. Because of Nixon this former Navy Mariner, peanut farmer, had to tell the hard truth about our overconsumption dubbed “the malaise” which in turn made the opening for the Reagan Revolution.
This was when Japan had the opening for smaller, more durable, gas efficient cars that obliterated Detroit. He had solar panels put on the White House until a Republican president tore them down. He sat down with Begin of Israel and Sadat of Egypt and brokered a deal that poked the eye of the Shah.
Revisionist history tells me he still failed on many accounts. However the work the executive branch and the legislative did in the late 70’s was vast and deep compared to the last two presidents combined. And although Iran purposely screwed him over and wouldn’t release the hostages until Reagan was sworn into office (ironic Reagan being involved in the Iran-Contra Affairs) he showed a grace and humility that no living president in my memory ever had.

I'm uncertain on Carter's Legacy, I think he'll be one of those often forgotten guys who were once in the Whitehouse.
It's amazing that the Dems go to the South so often for presidential candidates when they purport to hate the South so much.

And yet you’ve forgotten the Southern strategy by Atwater that propelled Reagan to dominance. Uh huh, I suppose you are going to tell me about the great Democrat party switch. How the racist Democrats all became Republicans when civil rights were passed .HarryK wrote: ↑Thu Aug 23, 2018 2:42 pmAnd yet you’ve forgotten the Southern strategy by Atwater that propelled Reagan to dominance. How many hundred times do you want to have the same debate?
