Just a thread for Historical debates...……. I'll start it off, with the great Dinosaur die off.

It was single mothers and diversity.
Once they became minorities in their own Gondwanaland the writting was on the wall.

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

We have other super volcanoes, and they don’t produce a global iridium layer... not much of a theory.

Why not both?
Maybe being hit by a 6 mile wide rock causes an increase in volcanic activity.

The main support for an asteroid is that we see a black layer of iridium around the globe, right at 65 million years in the fossil record.C-Mag wrote: Sun Aug 19, 2018 9:46 amRed Pill me on the Iridium layer.SuburbanFarmer wrote: Sun Aug 19, 2018 9:45 am We have other super volcanoes, and they don’t produce a global iridium layer... not much of a theory.
It’s a heavy element, so all of earths iridium is down in the core of the planet. We only see it in meteor craters.
The main suspect is the crater found in the curve of the Yucatán peninsula, off the coast of Mexico. The coastline is literally a crater Wall.

The Iridium layer backs up the asteroid theory as it was laid down simultaniously around the planet.C-Mag wrote: Sun Aug 19, 2018 9:46 amRed Pill me on the Iridium layer.SuburbanFarmer wrote: Sun Aug 19, 2018 9:45 am We have other super volcanoes, and they don’t produce a global iridium layer... not much of a theory.
https://www.livescience.com/39143-iridium.htmlPure iridium is so rare on the Earth's crust that there is only about 2 parts per billion located in the crust, according to Chemistry Explained.
"Iridium is one of the densest and rarest of Earth's natural elements. It is so dense that it mainly exists in the Earth's core, rather than crust," said Amanda Simson, an assistant professor of chemical engineering at the University of New Haven.
But some iridium exists in the crust. In 1980 scientist Luis Alvarez and his son Water Alvarez found significant amounts of iridium in a certain part of the Earth's crust, spread out all over the Earth's surface. "They speculated that it was caused by a meteor and linked this to the extinction of dinosaurs 66 million years prior," explained Simson.

Re: Historical Arguments and Debates
Thanks boys.
So, did you check out the volcano theory at all ?
It seems logical that a meteor strike could set off volcanos.
I really don't have a position. But apparently this is a big argument in paleontology.

I’ve heard about it before, but there’s really no supporting evidence. Occam’s Razor still points to an asteroid/comet.C-Mag wrote: Sun Aug 19, 2018 10:11 am Thanks boys.
