Where did the majority of those votes come from? If you realize it that the majority of Illinois is ignored because politicians know full well that the outskirts of the city are ignored.

If you do it by county, the population would be more recognized.

This would be a mix of having an electoral vote and a truer indication of popular vote.

I get the appeal of the popular vote, it feels cleaner and less corrupt than dealing with the over-represented caucuses/primaries (Iowa) and gerrymandering shit on the county level, but I'm willing to accept those flaws in order to keep the States in the United States relevant.
