The bumper, lights, tailgate, and rear window don't match up with a fourth gen,



It definitely isn't a seventh gen,

Probably has more to do with fuel costs. When oil prices are high longterm, they will sell more trucks if they can lower the MPG. But when oil prices are lower longterm, people aesthetically prefer the larger grills.
