Re: The internet takeover thread
Just remember that when we're talking about whether or not we can have a government takeover of these companies, or whether we should bring them down through competition in the market, or suing the shit out of them as publishers, just remember that this is not a fight between posters and platforms.
That is just the theater of this particular campaign.

Never defended it for a second. You were either too lazy or stupid to understand what I said.
I’m pointing out that you need to reconcile “bake me a cake” with this. It’s the same thing. A private (not government-owned) company is screening its customers. You guys were vehemently defending this a moment ago, but not now. Why?

Again, thank you for your insight. It's really not that hard to read these posts... I guess some of us just can't hack it though.Okeefenokee wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 11:31 amLies again.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 11:27 amNever defended it for a second. 21st century Jim Crow: digital businesses MUST violate freedom of speech/assembly/press as directed by the state
Nothing about that was meant to imply that facebook is a public entity, any more than we would imply that the Woolsworth lunch counter in 1950 was a public entity.
The state's action here is so blatantly unconstitutional and illegitimate as to take your breath away. That's what I meant by the "source of the problem" question. The source of the problem is the state.
If we get digital Jim Crow, the solution will surely be a digital CRA64.
The brick and mortar, IRL CRA64 could have simply said, "no more Jim Crow laws; don't force people to discriminate." But nay, nay, Jughead and the DNC say, "we're gonna give you some new compulsory rules."
So, the digital CRA will just be a list of what you MUST say and who you MUST associate with. All as determined by the friendly folks up in D.C. See how it works?
