Trump Throws Word Salads at California Wildfire Crisis

It’s hardly unprecedented for the president of the United States to say nonsensical or completely mendacious things on Twitter, worded strangely. But this tweet over the weekend was especially odd:

California wildfires are being magnified & made so much worse by the bad environmental laws which aren’t allowing massive amount of readily available water to be properly utilized. It is being diverted into the Pacific Ocean. Must also tree clear to stop fire spreading!

As, well, just about every expert noted immediately, you don’t stop wildfires by spraying them with water like you’d do with a house fire in a city.

Note the link to another story to back up their claim from "experts." Where does that go?

There are only two people quoted in the piece. One is a spokesman, not a firefighter, who said,

Not that I’m aware of. ... but that doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

and the other.....

and get this

he didn't say shit about how fires are fought

But the tweet had LeRoy Westerling, a UC Merced professor specializing in wildfire and climatology, chuckling.

“On the water side, it boggles the mind,” he said. “We do manage all of our rivers in California, and all the water is allocated many times over. So I’m not sure what he was recommending.

“Even if we eliminated all habitat for riparian species and fish, and allowed saltwater intrusion into the delta and set up a sprinkler system over the state, that wouldn’t compensate for greater moisture loss from climate change.”

Nothing about water not being used to fight fires on the page linked to to supposedly show that experts all agree that water has nothing to do with fighting fires.

The funniest part was cubicle gardener running in here to lay down some nawlidge about not fighting fires with water.

I saw a photo one time... of this guy.. who was fighting a big fire and.... he had a hose.. spraying water (wipes nose) and I know how to put out a fire cause my uncle... cooked a turkey...

Obviously, you would use water for small fires. Spray a couple dozen hoses at that thing, and you're just making steam.

Fire has 3 components. Heat, Oxygen and Fuel. The only one we can control as humans is Fuel loading. These massive fires a DIRECT RESULT of BAD ENVIRONMENTAL LAWS. The Mendocino is Spotted Owl country according the watermelons. And they have succesfully used that hammer to stop fuels reduction on the Mendocino.

Yup. We can't control the weather, can't control the air... Best we can hope is to cut firebreaks, start limited small area burns, etc.

Of course a lot of people like living in forested areas...
