When we invaded, the entire army, almost without exception, took off their uniforms and ran. The people we were fighting were the ones who chose to continue fighting, even though their army had surrendered mostly without a fight. Their families suffered immensely throughout all of it.

The reality I'd ask you about is, where do you think you can go and escape what happens if they take over here? And what would you say to those left behind who had to suffer through their terror because you ran?

We've all read the histories of the atrocities that commence when the Mongol Horde arrives. We've heard of the rape of Baghdad. We've heard of the rape of Berlin. None of us are ignorant to what happens when the enemy overruns your lines.

Dan never covered the VBIEDs detonated in city markets while mothers bought groceries. Dan never covered the jaish al mahdi kill teams of Baghdad that executed their fellow citizens for talking to the Americans.
