You do not understand the problem at all because you have no idea what honor is or why it is critical for a functioning society.

Yes, clearly I can’t comprehend honor, if I’m not ranting about a tv show that gave me bad feelz.

You have demonstrated repeatedly in this forum that you have no idea what honor is. When confronted with it, you have nothing but vile animosity towards the honorable men presented.

Remember a few weeks ago when a cop chased down two shitbags firing over thirty rounds into crowded streets and then tried to break into a high school to potentially take hostages?

You had nothing but hatred for that guy. You can't recognize excellence and bestow honor where it is due because you are a dishonorable cunt yourself. Dishonorable cunts are the greatest crabs in the bucket of them all.

The stolen valor argument in this case seems largely like a loophole to prevent the military from being impersonated for the purposes of comedy. If only the pimps had some sort of protection in the O'Keefe case. I can see that it would be in poorer taste to impersonate a veteran than a pimp, but I don't like the idea that one or the other should be off limits. I don't equate them on their amount of valor, or heroism, or degeneracy, or whatever comparison you'd like, only on their ability to be exploited for comedic purposes. I'm sorry if people in the military are upset by that, I only feel this way because I want to treat them like I treat everyone else. I don't see them as a privileged or protected class.

I suppose we'll all have to wait until the actual segment is aired to get a more-accurate account of what happened.

Negative.

Stolen valor is an egregious affront to the bonds that form all of complex society. We depend upon honor in order to place trust in leaders, assign men to roles in which they are competent, etc. When you break down that trust, which is what happens when you steal valor, then the consequences can be fatal.

Imagine we lived in some barbaric culture like Germania in late antiquity. Groups of Germans would mass together at some predetermined spot to form an army and fight for some cause. Leaders are chosen. People are assigned roles based on their renown and their honor. When a man lies and acquires honor he does not deserve (stolen valor) he achieves position and responsibility he has not earned, which can cost lives or even a battle.

An analog to this for civies that they might understand is imagining you get something like prostate cancer and look for a doctor to treat you. The doctor has a diploma on the wall. He is listed in the insurance company's list of approved doctors. So you go to him for treatment. Turns out, Dr. Mustafa is not a real doctor. He lied and forged his certificate so that he could gain access to more money than he would otherwise deserve.

I think you understand the problem when it is your money that is getting stolen by the fraud. The same is true for honor that comes from the battlefield. You do NOT fuck with that. At all.

Yes, we must wipe away every military comedy in our past, for honor.

Begin with this hateful propaganda.

Nope. Are you attempting to deflect from your getting beaten in an argument with nonsense? Shame.

I didn't see you address any of my arguments, opinions really, so I hardly consider it beaten. I agree with most of your points, stolen valor is bad, but the Sasha Baron Cohen case seems mild compared to other cases I've seen.

This is what you're suggesting?:
When a man lies and acquires honor he does not deserve (stolen valor) he achieves position and responsibility he has not earned, which can cost lives or even a battle.
I would argue, if this were an argument, that SBC has more than earned his reputation for impersonating characters, and I find that his being in a military uniform is irrelevant. He's an actor. An improv actor. A good one, based on the years of footage I've seen of the guy. It's his job to impersonate people. Why are military men in need of protection from that?

And the prostate cancer example falls flat because prostate cancer is effectively a death sentence. Watching SBC interview Sarah Palin isn't. Well, maybe to you it is.
