2018 Primaries

Post by PartyOf5 » Wed Jun 27, 2018 8:37 am

I kept the topic general to keep it open to all primary discussion, but 1 in particular prompted me to post.

A NY house seat will be getting a new face this fall. The incumbent, Joe Crowley, was upset in the Democrat primary by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Before today I had never heard of her and little of him. What made me pay attention to the stories this morning was hearing just how far left Ocasio-Cortez is. I haven't been paying too much attention to primary races outside of my own state to know if this is a trend or a one-off. If it is a trend, I say that's good news for GOP candidates. If the left decides to to all-out Socialist or radical progressive it may turn off a lot of moderate Democrats and independents.
Ocasio-Cortez is a socialist. She is literally a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. She campaigned on Medicare-for-all, "housing for all," abolishing ICE, an assault weapons ban, ending private prisons, a federal jobs guarantee, and more.
Guaranteed jobs sounds like those of us with decent paying jobs would end up subsidizing others so they can have a BS government job. Fuck that. I work to help my company and get paid to provide for me and my family, not also pay for someone else to have some made-up keep busy job. Either there is a need for a job or not. Having the government make them up and me pay for it does not sound like a good use of resources.

Not necessarily bad.

We can rebuild government projects to improve our infrastructure and work on difficult research and colonization problems.

Part of why we are strong now is the last bout of government jobs (that actually did important things like build dams, highways, bridges, and developed vaccines, etc).

But a job "guarantee" run by the government will end up being another handout at the expense of taxpayers.

All the best socialists are privileged children of rich parents.

It would be a shame to see this employee's market workforce with 4% GDP growth get fucked up by some hair brained socialist bullshit out of the brain of a silver spoon bar tender.

This is the first documentable to thing I've seen that shows the Dems have a decent chance in the Mid-Terms. I'm not cheering for them of course, but we need to take the threat very seriously.

If they regain control of Congress, they will fuck over your family economically to bone Trump, then they will turn around and give your money away to some SJW bullshit.
