I am so pissed off right now, don't use Oscar Moving Co.

We moved into a place hired professional movers, and they charged us an arm and a leg for the cost of using them. I have not only had cookware destroyed by the movers but WWII equipment destroyed (as in can't be repaired)... and the chance of finding any in good condition as they were in is near impossible.

I had two RPG boxes that were brought home from Iwo Gima from a grandfather who was on the island, and some rather expensive stoneware shattered (both were packed and protected in boxes, multi-layer of bubble wrap inside one large box and the stoneware in a large, reinforced storage tote.)

The stoneware can be replaced, the boxes, no chance in hell. I've yet to find my great grandfather's train lantern (working), I've already found my grandmother's bible and bible stand, both destroyed...

I spent over $3500 on this move, fucking hell...

Contract should cover damages.

It does, but there are things like the crates that can't be replaced.

How do you put a value on family history?

I don't know. Take them to an appraiser to at least get the market value that was lost.

Usually a deductible per item and they will try and fight paying anything. I'm curious how a bible was destroyed. Also, they won't be held liable for boxes packed by owner. They will contest that it may not have been packed properly and rightly so, because they have no way of knowing.

3 grand total I'm assuming you payed for packaging on quite a lot of stuff. If they packaged it they are liable for it. Otherwise it sounds like you got what? 15-20 hours of labor? Must have been two trucks. That's a lot of crap. Or was this a long distance move? Those are expensive. Three grand would be like 900 cubes roughly for an interstate. At least around here. I have no idea what blue states rates look like.

Two trucks, 10 years of stuff and toddlers toys, plus all my tools, and equipment.

1900 worth of moving cost.they charged extra for their own packing materials. Which I am finding was not needed... They double taped my boxes, and boxed up small boxes...

1600 for damages they caused that I had to cover to be repaired outright. And yeah... Now finding things destroyed.

So, is the company "Oscar's Moving Company", at 86 Rowe Street, Auburndale, Massachusetts, USA? If so, while their Googe review is generally good, you've got several past customers over the years on Yelp citing broken items with them.
