Pankration was the Greek martial arts system beginning some time in the 600s BC that seems to have made its way into what would become China.
It's basically an ancient version of our MMA. They combined boxing and wrestling.
Which is probably more effective than most Asian martial arts when you think about it. Kung Fu is cool for what it is, but if I seriously thought my life depended on it, I'd stick with boxing and wrestling.
