The press did that. Even Walter Mondale ran around saying "when I win this election" this that and the other. If you don't think you can win why run at all?

And Obama didn't? He didn't campaign in Berlin, Germany not for votes but to soak up the premature adulation? Hillary accepted the nomination of her party in a football stadium in front of foam Roman columns? Fucking really?

It requires a certain level of ego to seek the presidency in the first place but look over her entire career the changes she made to her look, to her name, her positions. Consider her run as first lady of Arkansas from the first time around to the next. Almost two totally different people that might be something negative, that might be something you don't like but it isn't ego.

I think Hillary was definitely overconfident. But you see that in quite a lot of women who try to compete in male fields. They confuse the affectation of confidence with actually being confident in your ability to command and win. Women see things more in terms of appearances whereas men judge themselves by their performance (or should) and their confidence stems from their knowledge of their performance relative to their competitors.

If you look at women like Margaret Thatcher, she was confident in the sense that men are confident. She knew she could defeat her opponents in elections and in the Parliament.

You can see women in the media doing this as well. Kathy Newman is a not a good interviewer or even debater. She got her job through affirmative action, and she basically acted like a competent thought leader by trying to bully and intimidate men who she knew were terrified of being labeled misogynists. But when she sat down with a guy who wasn't intimidated by her act, she was totally wrecked and became a laughable meme for the rest of her life.

I think personally this is why women are going to have a hard time winning presidential elections. Hillary Clinton was no different here.

For instance, if you really analyze that campaign, the absolute worst thing she did was trying to paint her opponents as mean misogynists who were mean to her in the debates because she was a woman. Not even the crimes, the negligence, or any of that was worse.

I think even women are subconsciously turned off by it, perhaps more so than men. Who wants a leader who is afraid of mean words and can only "compete" when everybody is polite to them and deferential to their vagina? Anyone?

It's a terrible look. Her confidence was a total affectation and she belied this fact by trying to play victim every chance she got.

It wasn't ego. It was an act.

She essentially has the opposite problem as Trump. Trump I think is overconfident in his ability. He's obvious extremely capable. But I think he overestimates himself all the time. He's not acting, though. He really believes in himself. That's what wins elections, but it could be a disaster when actually leading a nation.
