Best pizza I have ever eaten was in Germany and yes I have been to Italy.
Cooking proficiency, like everything else in life, is determined by factors such as dedication, skill and knowledge and not a simple matter of nationality.
Some of the pizza I've eaten in Italy was...meh. In fact filling potholes with it would have been better than eating it.
