Amazing! The set of living creatures includes the set of elephants AND the set of mushrooms. Nobody ever thought of it that way.

Genius, Gump.

Let's try it again, class. The set of Puritanism (not "Puritans" or "Quakers" or "elephants") contains the set of Progressivism.
You’re really going to make me start teaching class at 10:30AM on Monday, eh?

Progressivism:
The support for or advocacy of improvement of society by reform. As a philosophy, it is based on the Idea of Progress, which asserts that advancements in science, technology, economic development, and social organization are vital to the improvement of the human condition.
Is NOT a subset of Puratinism:
Puritanism, a religious reform movement in the late 16th and 17th centuries that sought to “purify” the Church of England of remnants of the Roman Catholic “popery” that the Puritans claimed had been retained after the religious settlement reached early in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.
And no, “but witch trials” isn’t a sufficient refutation of the facts.

Hilarious.
Is that what you say every time facts disrupt your flawed narrative?

“Schnauzers are the worst raccoons ever”
“Schnauzers are dogs, not raccoons.”
“Oh I see buddy, No True Schnauzer, right?”

"Facts"

The argument is that Progressivism is derivative of (a subset of) Puritanism, in counter to Flounder's 0.2 statement that Puritans are "polar opposites" of Progressives. StA made some apt observations about how the latter follows from the former.

At least you're helping Flounder out with his googling homework. FACTS!!

They're totes the same, because they both want to change things to suit their worldview. Unlike us, who simply watch things happen, and accept whatever comes along. For we are the Real Americans, not those bastards.

All present situations flow from past situations.
Therefore everything we see now is a direct consequence of whatever random historical events I cite at a whim.

Sounds legit. According to MHF scholars progressivism is a descendant of puratinism because of the unidirectional movement of time.

Hey y’all, did you know Democrats are direct descendants of the Tokugawa Shogunate?
Yep.
They both hate guns!

So far, here's what you've contributed:

A. The wiki definition of "Progressivism" differs from some other online encyclopedia definition of "Puritanism."

B. Image

Flounder needs better from you Broheim. Help him with that "polar opposite" thingy.

I suppose the solution is to just pretend everything happens in a vacuum then.

I remember this line of logic.

Two hundred years of mercantile trade warfare had nothing to do with the civil war it directly triggered because we don't make connections in this history class.

My criticisms of the arguments presented are apt indeed.

Which explains why all your efforts are focused on trying to derail them rather than demonstrating the strong line of inheritance that surely links modern day Progressivism to 17th century Puritanism, right?
