How They Hijacked Anthropology

How They Hijacked Anthropology
Perhaps the greatest shift in any academic field in the past 30 or 40 years has been in anthropology. Call it an epistemological paradigm shift away from science.

Three main influences led to this shift: One was the morphing of symbolic anthropology into interpretive anthropology under the influence of Clifford Geertz, who distanced himself from science and likened anthropology to literary criticism. The second was a Marxist and feminist commitment to political activism and advocacy. The third was the postmodern rejection of objectivity. The three influences merge, in that the removal of scientific knowledge as a goal opens the way for political activism and advocacy.
SCIENCE!!!

They are nowhere near done with the assault, kids. Preserve math where you can. 2 + 2 = 5 is coming soon to a school near you.

Anthropology was pozzed from day one. That's why the more scientifically minded folks created physical anthropology and left the rest to the hippies.

Anthropology began as a leftist alternative to sociology, but even that got infected pretty fast.

The study of Humans/Society cannot wholly be a "science". Same thing with History, Religion, Literature and yes even Psychology. You'd have to change the definitions for those fields. I dislike postmodernism and marxism etc. but I do not want to turn everything and all professions into a "science" nor do I think you could even if you wanted to. At least not until AI and humans merge, or humans are wiped out. or what we know as human beings becomes something else entirely.

Leave science to Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Engineering etc. Humanities use to be awesome but making them into a "science" isn't whats needed or possible.

Once we go full-on transhumanist we probably won't be dealing with things that are not science related. Hell, there are people here in this forum that think that the entire BA degrees are not worth it. They are all too happy to throw out just about anything, IMO, that they feel are "useless". Even when our kids can't point to a country on a map or even name the current president anymore they would never try to see the value in any field that isn't part of the STEM field, IMO.
