Trump also considering pardoning/commuting sentences for Martha Stewart and Rod Blagojevich.

The Stewart is a no brainer. That was a Bullshit entrapment into a process crime, the Rowdy Rod Blagojevich is interesting.

Rod was in Chicago politics during the ascension of Barrack Obama, he knows all the players, including Valerie Jarret, Ayers, etc. and he probably has knowledge of all the dirty deals that went down.

Never really swallowed that explaination. Seems to me the type of thing you might say to deflect away from the fact that you did not do your job properly.

Or, you can ignore all that and focus on the fact that some of these government workers said ''it's not my fault, I was scared of being called a racist''.
You know, not doing your job because you feared being called racist is pretty much the definition of "not doing your job properly" isn't it? And for the record, there's a reason I cited the BBC for that.. it's not just some right-wing nutjob conspiracy that says they didn't do their job because they feared being called racist.
No but it's a right wing nut job conspiracy to claim it was government policy.
It was a shitty council, a shitty police force and a shitty social services dept.
To claim it was government policy as some have is what I was responding to.

The government policy which helped to create the situation is funding cuts.
Ah, then sure, that it was official policy from on high from Downing Street or parliament, no word on that in any news I've read.

How, and to what extent, is cut funding responsible or related to police and social workers not choosing to act on a criminal issue despite having the information they needed to act?

Look, I'm not a raging Liberbarian. In fact, I regularly vote Social Democrat, and even once or twice for the Socialist People's Party (mostly for EUP). Cutting financing from something that already works, generally means it won't work as well. Not a fan of government-as-a-business way of thinking. But even so, I recognize that simply throwing more and more money at something that doesn't work, requires reform, identifying a problem and then trying to fix it. If you had increased those employees pay, would they have done something sooner? Would having more workers have increased the likelihood of someone doing something? Well, yeah...right up untill those "rotten apples", if you will, spoil the bunch and tell the morally decent ones who want to do their jobs, that they risk getting pegged as racists if they file charges.

Get caught selling a senate seat left by new president. Get pardoned by next president.

Swamp levels are not falling.

How well does taking more and more money away from something which isn't working turn out?
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

It works out FANTASTIC from a “not wasting money on shit that doesn’t work” aspect.

He was talking about commuting Blago's sentence. Blagojevich was sent to prison essentially for asking what he should get out appointing a senator. It's wrong, but there are murderers who spend less than 18 years in prison. A woman who raped a student just got like 18 months. The criminal justice system should be more reasonable about sentencing, else the people really will lose faith in it. Politically-motivated sentencing is an anathema to justice, no matter who gets railroaded.

I believe we can look to 40 years of “Tough On Crime” republican politics for that one. Built up a lovely Prison Industrial Complex from it.
