What happens if every other local government comes up with similar taxes? What about Seattle? They called Amazon's bluff and won, which increases the likelihood they will do this again with something else. How far is too far for you?

They have already proven to be extremely inefficient with the money they already had, but their solution is "we just need more".

If every local government is experiencing such a tight housing market due to an economic boom, well, I guess that is the sort of problem you want to have.
Fortunately, we have a democratic apparatus in place to allow different regions to experiment with different tax regimes, and we will see where the best solutions arise.

I think you missed the point. I'm not talking about just housing for the homeless. What will be the next crisis that only the government can cure if only they had millions more of your money? You say you don't mind paying Amazon a little extra to help fund Seattle's homeless project. What about San Francisco's Hepatitis problem? What if they come up with a similar tax for that. Or how about Texas wants to raise money for it's own border wall or increased enforcement of the border and makes Texas based companies pay a head tax? Pretty soon you've got inflation because every company is paying a head tax for all sorts of government projects.

I'd be asking for local government to make better use of what they have before throwing more money into their pockets.

I understood what point you were making. You think a head tax initiative is the start of a slippery slope. I doubt it is, and am not much of an inflation-hawk anyway.

This isn't even the start of a slippery slope, it's the continuation of one that began a long time ago. The new twist is the head tax. I'm not a no-government guy, but there is a line that was crossed long ago as far as governments at all levels doing their jobs, which is to serve the people. There is rampant waste, fraud and abuse across the board, with no accountability.

You being fine with the head tax shows you as a boiling frog. This was just another degree higher in the water, so no big deal.

There are reasons that slippery slope arguments are typically considered fallacious.

But, never fear, because the absolute, worst-case scenario is our economy collapses under the onerous burden of head taxes,and our society implodes, allowing for us to start from scratch to build the libertarian paradise America was always meant to be.

What does that even mean? Liberals (progressives and conservatives, both) use that silly meme to cast any dissent from liberalism as being radical or otherwise not acceptable. It's just another way of dragging people back down into the bucket of your own device.

See, you do get it. Mainstream view is that liberalism (progressives and conservatives, both) is neither radical nor unacceptable. Squarely placed inside normal, boring, predictable American ideology. Powerful, successful, libertine, and unstoppable.
